MCM Borneo

Located in a quiet Chicago suburb, this 1968 mid-century home offered more promise than polish when our clients first came across it. Unsure if this home could truly be their dream retreat, they took a chance, knowing that with the right team, transformation was more than possible. With its beautiful mid-century bones, the home offered the perfect foundation. Leaning into those strengths, the design team embraced the home’s architectural elements by repurposing the existing stonework, preserving the original exterior lighting, and reimagining the original wall panels displayed throughout.

New windows blur the line between indoors and out, framing the tranquil panoramic views of the waterfront setting. The design team emphasized natural light and a functional layout throughout, creating a serene atmosphere that celebrates the surrounding landscape. Upon entry, what was once an interior water feature is now a sunken conversation pit inspired by the mid-century era, great for social gatherings. The area now features a built-in bench and a floor-to-ceiling bookcase that complements the existing wood paneling. We opted for a dramatic black ceiling in the main areas to create a seamless visual rhythm throughout the rooms. In the kitchen, we opted for a waterfall-edge at the island using a warm and cool-toned quartzite, a bronze-finished hood range with a whimsical midcentury-inspired pattern, a dimensional backsplash, and a custom breakfast seating area topped with a patterned seat and back cushion that infuses subtle color. The primary bathroom, with hand-selected stones alongside materials such as metal, walnut wood, and cast-stone composite sconces, reflects the vision of bringing the outdoors in. From finishes to furnishings, mid-century inspired details bring continuity throughout the home.

Through years of ongoing collaboration and a shared dedication, we created a thoughtful sanctuary for the clients. We preserved some key architectural details while introducing carefully curated selections. The goal of honoring the home’s history while enhancing modern livability was a top priority.

Refined Elegance

We transformed this 2001 kitchen from a dated space to a stunning transitional space that beautifully complements the home’s architecture and scenic golf course views. The original cabinetry, still in excellent condition, was thoughtfully refinished in a rich, cool-toned walnut stain. To add contrast and a touch of modern sophistication, we redesigned the island and serving station with updated materials and details.

A striking quartzite was hand-selected for its layered cool and warm tones, bringing depth and elegance to the space. By seamlessly carrying the stone from the countertop to the backsplash, we created a cohesive and timeless statement. Every design choice and layout enhancement was made to elevate the home’s luxurious feel while honoring its existing character.

When our clients made the move from the city to the suburbs, they knew they wanted a home that felt just as curated and intentional, without sacrificing comfort or warmth. This full-service interior design project began with a complete reimagining of the entire first floor, encompassing space planning, architectural details, and the comprehensive integration of custom furnishings, art, and accessories.

We guided them from concept to completion, creating a seamless flow between the spaces, each designed to reflect a relaxed lifestyle while honoring the sophistication they were accustomed to. With an emphasis on livable luxury, we introduced tailored textures, refined finishes, and timeless silhouettes that elevate the everyday experience of home.

Not Bluffing Oaks

This two-year project was rooted in collaboration and intention from the beginning. Our clients, a family of five relocating from the city to the suburbs, assembled their whole team early on, laying the foundation for a seamless and successful design journey. We guided them through every selection with care, ensuring each space reflected their lifestyle, values, and vision. The result is a warm, welcoming home that truly feels like their own, thoughtfully designed for the next chapter of family life.

Caviar Ode

A family of four made the move from the city of Chicago to the suburbs, ready to settle into a home that matched their next chapter. With full schedules and limited time to focus on the details, they turned to Christie Kenny Interiors for complete design guidance. Trusting the process, they gave us creative freedom to thoughtfully furnish and personalize their beautiful new home through our full-service interior design approach.

Inherent Splendour

This full basement remodel was inspired by the layered charm and moody sophistication of an eclectic British-style neighborhood bar in Chicago. Designed as a one-of-a-kind retreat, the space is rich with depth, character, and luxurious textures woven together to create an intimate yet highly functional environment.

At the heart of the design is a statement bar featuring buffalo leather tile bar-top tiles installed in a striking herringbone pattern. The bar front is clad in Chicago-faced brick, paired with an antique-inspired glass tile backsplash that adds subtle shimmer and texture. Custom pendant lighting, crafted with bronze stamping and rich cognac leather straps, anchors the space, while black countertops and antique brass plumbing fixtures and hardware are layered throughout for warmth and cohesion.

Multiple patterns and a playful yet moody color palette bring visual interest without overwhelming the space. A perfectly scaled wallcovering sets the backdrop for a curated gallery wall, thoughtfully illuminated with unique sconces. The booth seating area serves as a natural midpoint between the bar and lounge, an inviting spot for conversation, games, and casual gatherings.

Beyond the bar, the lounge area offers a comfortable setting for entertaining or enjoying family movie nights. Opposite the lounge, a dedicated music gathering space was created to showcase the family’s guitars, a relaxed, creative corner designed for collaboration and unwinding. In the bathroom, we continued the elevated detailing with a floating vanity featuring a reeded front, paired with glass pendants and a sculptural brass faucet for a refined finishing touch.

Simply Sophisticated

Our clients came to us with a clear vision for their dream kitchen but needed guidance to bring it to life. Through a collaborative, hands-on approach, we combined our design expertise with their ideas by using interactive ideabooks, detailed planning tools, and curated selections to refine every detail. A thoughtful mix of finishes adds depth and visual interest, highlighting key details throughout the space. The result is a timeless, highly functional home that blends beauty and practicality, perfectly tailored to their lifestyle.

Neutral and Nuanced

This 1,600-square-foot addition and remodel transformed this 1988 home into a refined, modern retreat. The scope included a spacious new primary suite, a reimagined foyer, an upgraded laundry room, a functional mudroom, and a beautifully renovated powder room. Every space was thoughtfully designed to enhance the home’s original character while introducing fresh, contemporary features tailored to today’s lifestyle needs.

Blue Lagoon

Clean lines, natural warmth, and understated luxury define this modern Scandinavian-inspired bath. Light oak cabinetry, crisp white surfaces, and soft gray tones create a serene, elevated retreat grounded in simplicity and calm.

Black Lake House

This new construction lakefront home was designed as an entertainer’s paradise. Blending modern transitional style with timeless appeal. With its southern exposure and custom architectural details throughout, the home strikes a perfect balance between beauty and function, creating a harmonious retreat that is ideal for both everyday living and elevated gatherings.

Classic Hozier

A growing family, plus their two beloved dogs, made the move from the city to the suburbs in search of a cozy, inviting home that could grow with them. With a casual, transitional aesthetic in mind, we designed a space rooted in comfort and durability, utilizing heavy-use materials to support their busy, family-focused lifestyle.

Naperville Modern Rustic Basement

In this basement, we designed a space where relaxation meets refined entertaining with just the right touch of rustic charm. The standout countertop sets the tone, featuring a striking white background layered with bold, translucent black and charcoal veining, accented by subtle gray spatter and cross veins. Thoughtfully planned, the layout features three distinct yet interconnected zones for gathering, enabling intimate conversations without disrupting the overall flow of the space.

#OsloBaderom

The guest bathroom needed a major update. The clients wanted a serene oasis for guests. We created a clean, organic, and timeless look. From the curved edges of the custom rift-cut white oak vanity, featuring a beautiful soft sand stain, brass finishes, a whimsical leaf pattern dolomite accent tile surrounded by subtle textured subway tile, and a stunning Carrara used for the shower floor.

Oslo Baderom

Old Head of Kinsale

We updated this home office with beautiful custom cabinetry using a black stain, chrome grill, and chrome cabinet hardware to work with the chrome semi-mount lighting fixture. We updated the wall sconces with a modern and tailored fixture with a professional and meaningful photograph of the Old Head of Kinsale golf course. We used modern transitional furnishings paired with beautiful pinch pleat draperies and new walnut French doors for soundproofing.

Van Deusen Springs

This 1959 home underwent a major remodel, thoughtfully blending timeless design with a modern edge. We refinished the floors in a rich walnut stain, grounding the space with warmth and depth. The cabinetry brings a fresh, layered feel. Deep blue for the base and island, warm white for the upper perimeter, and a custom walnut-stained hood that echoes the flooring. A generous island anchors the kitchen, topped with a seamless jumbo quartz slab featuring warm, organic veining that’s echoed in the glass backsplash tile, tying all the finishes together. Balancing warm and cool tones, we completed the look with modern yet timeless lighting, creating an updated and cohesive aesthetic.

Duo Basilio

A cozy yet elevated family room designed for a family of four and their two beloved pups. We blended casual comfort with refined elegance, thoughtfully selecting durable, heavy-use materials to suit their beautifully busy lifestyle.

First Rain

We were called in to reimagine the family room, focusing on comfort, durability, and elevated style. The design features a stunning sectional in heavy-use velvet, paired with custom upholstered recliners for relaxed seating. A dual-finish glass cocktail table and matching console add a layered, collected feel. We introduced a large-scale light fixture for impact, a detailed media cabinet for function, and wall-to-wall wool carpeting for softness underfoot. Finished with pinch-pleat draperies and Hunter Douglas PowerView treatments, along with thoughtfully curated accessories, this space now feels both effortlessly elegant and perfectly tailored for everyday living.

We thoughtfully selected materials that embody casual elegance and tailored sophistication. A balanced mix of color, shape, and pattern brings harmony to the space while introducing modern, refined features. Lighting played a pivotal role in this kitchen, not only enhancing functionality but also adding visual interest through a curated blend of materials and finishes. Every detail was carefully designed to enhance both the aesthetic and the experience of the space.

Modern Retreat Master Bathroom

We designed this primary bathroom as a modern retreat, blending classic elegance with bold, tailored details. To make a striking first impression, we relocated the original plumbing and positioned the elegant freestanding tub on an angle upon entry. The timeless black-and-white palette sets the tone, both modern and sophisticated while a mix of matte black and brass finishes adds warmth and depth. These finishes are echoed in the contemporary chandelier and sconces, unifying the space. A dramatic floor-to-ceiling waterfall tile feature in a large-scale pattern adds visual interest and perfectly balances the brick-laid white subway tile. A rich, deep blue double vanity provides a refined pop of color, anchoring this spacious and serene master bath.

DG Oak Hill

This newly renovated home offered a blank canvas, allowing us to thoughtfully furnish each space with both function and style in mind. Every room was designed to reflect character, charm, and comfortable living, bringing warmth and personality to this fresh start.

Tuttersall Hills Project

We transformed this traditionally styled space into a tailored, transitional-modern home office with a masculine edge and inviting warmth. Custom cabinetry was designed with an open center to showcase art, highlighted by a sleek picture light for added ambiance. We carried the bold black paint color onto the walls, creating a cohesive and modern backdrop that allows colorful books, artwork, and everyday essentials to shine. A sculptural chandelier, featuring a mix of metals, adds organic movement and a touch of playful sophistication to complete the look.
